![]() Yeah, RC makes inversion-making ridiculously easy, when you put the chords in. it gets laughed at a lot, but I think it yields decent results. There's one I'm forgetting that has like a pretty-color interface with shapes. There are other midi-generator tools but I think those are by far the most well-known. People have been so helpful to me over the years, I can't help but pay it forward, wherever I can. They don't always yield usable results, but most of the time, they do, if you tweak enough.Ĭlick to expand.Appreciate the kind words. Including the other stuff mentioned above (CodeFN42, etc), there are a ton of options. ![]() Sugar Bytes Thesys - not always good results with the random/dice roll stuff, and it doesn't have a random "step mute" thing, but you can get some cool results from this, too. Maschine and its "Variations" mode - not always good results, but a one-button press (from Maschine Jam or Maschine MK3) and you can have some usable melodies. Works similarly to MIDI Madness 3 and others. Reaper and MIDI Ex Machina by Rob - humble Reaper script, but insanely powerful. Sundog Song Studio / Feel Your Sound - this guy's humble software is very powerful and often yields really good results. Orb / Hexachords - have not used at all but it seems like Captain Plugins, the off-line version. But, usually good results, and in my opinion, worth the asking price (it's only $20 per plugin). Needs an internet connection the whole time you're using it (that's annoying). Midi Madness 3 - depending on the constraints, you can either come up with cool-sounding stuff or terrible. You can play segments of midi files, which is really nice, but it's not "generating". reMIDI - not a "generator" so much, as a "midi file chopper". Interface is hard to read, but it's cool. It's just a clunky program, and always has been. But sometimes you can get decent results. And a lot of the stuff is very, very cheesy. But, not all of the Melodists even work, I've found. But, the Melodist can yield some decent results after you put your own chord progression in. Too many things do too many things, and there are like 5 different ways to do something in every menu. This thing can be confusing to use but usually yields pretty nice results. Melodya - the Phrase/Melody generator part of RapidComposer, as a separate plugin. There's nothing like it, and nothing as powerful. While I see the program on the sister site, I feel that it's worth the asking price, considering everything it does. ![]() This software used to crash constantly but it has been greatly stabilized over the years. Long before Captain Plugins did, and I feel that they stole his code and ideas. RapidComposer - been a fan of this developer's work for a number of years. Scaler 2- great for chord progressions/theory knowledge and the Performances are pretty useful, but the types of things that everyone's going to use in their productions, so I'd avoid the Performances mostly, but this is a great idea tool, and cheap. ![]()

In these situations, being able to copy, paste and share blueprints using the blueprint library allows a much smoother and less chaotic experience. This is especially relevant in multiplayer games, where each player using their own rail standards will cause chaos and destruction. ![]() Once you have built a thing once in a world, its pretty common to need to build it again later, be it miner setups, train stops, train tracks, solar setups, bus layouts, et cetera. Often, the main difference will be the size of the blueprint placed at a single time and how quickly the construction bots can get it built.Īn assortment of balancers. Whether you have just researched solar panels or are several hundred hours into maximising the SPM of a save, your solar panel setups are gonna look basically the same. Spending five to ten minutes faffing around, trying to perfectly fill the space around a roboport may sound like fun to some people, but this is a problem that doesn’t particularly change depending on the game scenario. The perfect example of this is solar setups, generally tiling tons of solar panels and accumulators in the hope of one day cleanly powering your factory. I will concede that in some RARE situations, importing blueprints can be handy to avoid several minutes of monotony. Maybe importing blueprints is somewhat redeemable To me, that really doesn’t sound very fun. ![]() Notice the unique and slightly odd design, because why not try something like this?īy just importing a blueprint every time you need to make something new, you aren’t problem-solving and designing, you are a construction bot placing down racks of machines, and plumbing up the inputs and outputs. These kinds of choices are the challenge of Factorio in my opinion designing within the constraints of the situation and making the best of it.Ī simple but large green circuit layout I recently designed to allow the production of two belts of green circuits, using only low tier assemblers. Or maybe you’re going to try a centralized approach to production, with only basic tiers of machines. Maybe this time, you’ll use productivity modules. Each and every time you build a green circuit maker for example, you get to use your experience to make it better than the last one. It’s about iteratively optimizing and improving your production setups, whether it be to produce more of the final product, to make the bare minimum required in the tiniest space possible, or to keep that UPS at a smooth 60 while you keep building onwards. ![]() The goal of Factorio is (spoiler alert) to build a factory, but it’s also so much more than that. I would never have added the blueprint library :) Not a popular opinion but I’ve had it ruin a few multiplayer games I was enjoying someone comes through with a ’base in a blueprint’ and all the creativity and fun is now over it’s just ’build that’. I think Rseding91 said it best in his recent ish AMA on Reddit where he was asked what the one thing he would change about Factorio is: What I cannot endorse however is the blueprint library and string import features. I have no issues with this ‘copy and paste’ functionality, and I particularly enjoy the direct copy- and paste-buttons and shortcuts that were added with the quickbar overhaul in 0.17.10. First added in version 0.9.0, they allow us to create ghost copies of all sorts of machinery and place them anywhere in the rest of our sprawling factories. We’re sure he’d be happy to hear your take on this, so please feel free to share it in the comments!
